This unframed, handmade print was made by me in my studio in the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It is one of a variable limited edition of 90, which means that there will only be 90 printed, but there may be several different background colours..
The background to this print was made using two pieces of lino the same size as the hawthorn plate. They were etched with caustic soda and printed in different colours one on top of the other, with the tree printed on top of both.

The moorland of Dartmoor is dotted with hawthorns like this, which have survived the grazing sheep to grow into contorted shapes, battered by the wind and rain. They are magical trees.

This hawthorn has so much character and the soft swirl of the background sets it off beautifully
